Workflow Automation

Operational Automation: 5-Hour Excel Workflow to 1-Click App

Developed a Windows desktop app that replaced a five-hour manual Excel process with a single-click automated workflow for non-technical operations staff.

Problem

Commercial reporting at a tech distribution company relied on a multi-step Excel workflow that took roughly five hours per run. Errors were common, and skilled staff spent time on data entry instead of client follow-up.

What I built

  • Mapped every manual Excel step in the existing reporting process with the operations team.
  • Built automation logic to parse, clean, and format spreadsheet data automatically.
  • Packaged the tool as a simple Windows desktop interface — one button, no formulas to maintain.
  • Deployed locally with validation checks so bad inputs failed fast instead of corrupting reports.

Result

Reduced a five-hour manual job to a one-click run with consistent output. The team reclaimed time for sales follow-up and quote turnaround improved.

What I learned

The best internal tools hide complexity — non-technical users need one clear action, not a dashboard. Shipping a small desktop app beat trying to force-fit the workflow into a generic SaaS tool.
